Running Out of Room in the Kitchen or Taproom

Food and drink businesses are squeezed for space. A kitchen has no room for dry stores, a taproom has no room for kegs and packaging, and a patio or event stand is only a tent with a van beside it. Leasing more space takes time, and building on takes longer than a season allows.

A container is a strong, lockable shell that fits in a parking lot, a yard or beside an existing building. A 20ft suits a coffee shop, a small kitchen or a bar, and a 40ft fits a kitchen with a service counter and a stockroom. It also works as dry storage for packaging, dry goods and equipment, kept off the floor and away from pests.

The container arrives as a bare steel box, so kitchens, counters and finishes are installed by your builder and trades, and the box can be moved later if you change location.

Setting Up Your Container for a Café, Bar or Kitchen

  • Ground and placement: Set it on a level pad with a clear path for deliveries, and close to parking or foot traffic if customers will visit.
  • Service opening: A serving hatch or window is cut in by a welder or container builder, and the opening is framed to keep the wall strong. Plan its size and position before you order.
  • Truck access: Our tilt-bed trucks need a clear path, room to back up and space clear of wires and branches. Tell us about your lot when you request a quote and we will confirm delivery will work before you order.
  • Power, water and ventilation: Electrical, plumbing and gas are done by qualified trades, and a kitchen needs a proper hood and ventilation system. Plan where they will run before you finish the inside.
  • Insulation and surfaces: Insulate the walls and ceiling with a moisture barrier, and line walls and floors with easy-to-clean surfaces.
  • Security: Fit a quality lock, add shutters or bars to any opening, and keep stock and equipment locked away when you close.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you run a restaurant or café from a shipping container?

Yes. Containers are used for coffee shops, restaurants, bars and taprooms. The container arrives as a bare steel box that you or a builder fit out with a kitchen, a counter, power and plumbing.

What size container do I need for a café or bar?

A 20ft container suits a coffee shop, a small kitchen or a bar. A 40ft gives room for a kitchen with a service counter and a stockroom. Tell us what you plan to serve and we will help you choose.

Can a container be used for dry storage in my food or beverage business?

Yes. A container is a lockable steel room for packaging, dry goods, kegs and equipment. Keep items off the floor and away from the walls, and add vents to limit condensation.

Can a serving window or hatch be added?

Yes, but it is cut in by a welder or container builder you hire, and the opening is framed to keep the wall strong. Plan its size and position before you order.

Can the container be moved to another location?

A container is a self-contained steel unit that a truck can load and move, so the business can follow you to a new site. Plan access at both ends and tell us if you expect to move it.

How long does delivery take?

Most deliveries arrive within 1–3 business days of your order, depending on inventory and site conditions. We confirm the timing when you request a quote.
