Retail Space Without the Lease

Retail space is slow to get. A lease means a long commitment, a fit-out and a location you may outgrow, and a seasonal or test shop rarely justifies one. Tents and stalls are easy to start with, but they are exposed to weather, hard to lock and look temporary.

Stock is the other problem. A small shop needs somewhere to keep inventory that is dry, secure and close to the counter, and a van or a rented unit across town means a trip every time you run low.

A container shop gives you a self-contained, lockable space on your lot or a leased pad. A 20ft suits a boutique, a kiosk or a stockroom, and a 40ft fits a larger shop with a back room. A service hatch or glass door can be cut in to serve customers, and when the season ends or your location changes, the whole shop can be moved.

Setting Up Your Container for a Shop or Pop-up

  • Ground and placement: Set it on a level pad close to foot traffic and parking, with the front facing where customers approach.
  • Storefront opening: A hatch, window or glass door is cut in by a welder or container builder, and the opening is framed to keep the wall strong. Plan its size and position before you order.
  • Truck access: Our tilt-bed trucks need a clear path, room to back up and space clear of wires and branches. Tell us about your lot when you request a quote and we will confirm delivery will work before you order.
  • Power and lighting: Have a qualified electrician run power for lights, a till and a card reader. Good lighting makes a container shop feel open.
  • Insulation and climate: Insulate the walls and ceiling and add a moisture barrier before you finish the inside, with a heater or mini-split for comfort.
  • Security: Fit a quality lock, add shutters or bars to any opening, and keep stock out of sight when the shop is closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you run a shop from a shipping container?

Yes. Container shops are used for pop-ups, kiosks, seasonal stands and permanent stores. The container arrives as a bare steel box that you or a builder fit out with a counter, shelving, lighting and an opening for customers.

What size container do I need for a pop-up shop?

A 20ft container suits a boutique, a kiosk or a small pop-up. A 40ft gives room for a larger shop floor with a back room for stock. Tell us what you plan to sell and we will help you choose.

Can a window or door be added for customers?

Yes, but it is cut in by a welder or container builder you hire, and the opening is framed to keep the wall strong. Plan its size and position before you order.

Can the shop be moved to another location?

A container is a self-contained steel unit that a truck can load and move, so the shop can follow your business. Plan access at both ends and tell us if you expect to move it.

Should I buy a new or used container for retail?

A new one-trip container has the cleanest walls and floor, which matters when customers see the inside. A used cargo-worthy container suits a stockroom or a shop you will clad inside and out.

How long does delivery take?

Most deliveries arrive within 1–3 business days of your order, depending on inventory and site conditions. We confirm the timing when you request a quote.
