Shipping Containers for Cottage & Seasonal Storage

A steel container keeps the boat, the ATV, the patio furniture and the rest of the seasonal gear locked and dry at the cottage while you are away. We deliver it to your property and set it in place.

Why Cottage & Seasonal Storage Needs More Than a Shed

Your cottage sits empty for much of the year. A wooden shed keeps the rain off, and that is about all it does while you are away.

  • Theft: an unattended property is an easy target, and nobody is there to notice for weeks.
  • Winter damage: a boat left under a tarp takes on snow and meltwater.
  • Pests: mice and squirrels get into a shed and nest in cushions and life jackets.

Most owners haul everything home each fall, or pay for storage in town and drive back for it in spring. A steel container on your own property is weatherproof and far harder to break into than a shed, so your gear stays where you use it.

Setting Up Your Container for Cottage Storage

  • Ground: Set the container on firm, level ground. An uneven base makes the doors bind and lets water pool underneath.
  • Road and access: Our tilt-bed trucks need firm ground, enough width to travel on and clear space to back up and place the container. Tell us about a narrow or unpaved road, tight turns or seasonal road restrictions when you ask for a quote.
  • Ventilation: Good ventilation limits condensation, which matters when the doors stay shut for months.
  • Locking: Fit a quality lock. Nobody is there to check on the container while you are away.
  • Organizing: Keep items off the floor and away from the walls. Shelving along the walls leaves the floor clear for a boat or an ATV.
  • Local rules: Check with your local zoning office before you place a container.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you deliver to a cottage with a narrow or unpaved road?

Often yes, but it depends on the road. Our tilt-bed trucks need firm ground, enough width to travel on, and clear space to back up and place the container. Tell us about your road and driveway when you request a quote and we’ll confirm whether delivery will work before you order.

Will my belongings be safe over the winter?

A steel container is secure, weatherproof and far harder to break into than a shed. For long-term unattended storage, we recommend good ventilation to limit condensation, a quality lock, and keeping items off the floor and away from the walls. A wind-and-watertight or better container is the right starting point. See our Quality Guarantee for what each grade means.

What size do I need for a boat, ATV and seasonal gear?

A 20ft container fits most seasonal gear and an ATV or small watercraft. A 40ft container is better if you’re storing a larger boat or trailer, or want room for storage plus a workspace. Contact us with what you’re storing and we’ll help you pick.

Should I buy new or used for a cottage?

For most seasonal storage, a used wind-and-watertight container is a cost-effective choice. If you want the best condition for long-term, unattended storage, a new container is worth considering.

Can I move the container later?

Yes, we can arrange to relocate it, for example if you sell the property or want it on a different part of the lot. Contact us to schedule a move.
